2012 Wagner Speedway Hobby Stock Class

This class is intended as a beginning driver class only.

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have compiled with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.

No courtesy races will be given. All competitors must comply with the rules in the division they have entered or you will not be allowed to compete. No exceptions.

DRIVERS AND PIT CREWS PRIOR TO, OR DURING ANY RACING EVENT WILL NOT CONSUME ANY ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. NO ONE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE RACEWAY. ANYONE CAUGHT DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OR BREAKING THIS RULE WILL BE EJECTED FOR THE SEASON AND THE AUTHORITIES WILL BE SUMMONED TO ENFORCE LEGAL ACTION. NO EXCEPTIONS.

RAIN POLICY

We all wish for blue sunny skies on race day, but if the weather turns here’s what you need to do…..

In the event that rain puts a halt to our racing program, the race will be considered done if all the heat races are fully done. NO RAIN CHECKS WILL BE ISSUED and the feature races will be run before the start of next weeks racing program, with complete race program to follow. If the heat races are not completed, RAIN CHECKS WILL BE ISSUED, and a complete program will be run the following week. ALL RAIN CHECKS MUST BE USED WITH (2) WEEKS FOLLOWING THE RAIN OUT. Rain Checks CANNOT be used on Special Events.

SAFETY: Helmets are required and must be Snell SA95, SA2000 or SA2005. Helmet must be worn at all times car is on the track and must accompany vehicle at time of inspection. Roll bar padding required in driver compartment. Fire retardant padding recommended. SFI approved fire suits of a flame retardant nature must be worn by all competitors. Fire retardant underwear, neck brace, socks, shoes and gloves mandatory. Full-size (minimum 16"x20") driver-side window net required (no string-type nets). Window net to be mounted so latch is at top front of window. Five point safety belts, sub belt, shoulder harness required. The shoulder harness must be mounted securely to the roll cage. Belts and harness recommended not to be more than three years old. Aluminum high back seats only, must be bolted in. Kill switch required within easy reach of driver. Switch must be clearly marked 'OFF' and 'ON'.

 

Previous year champion must move up to another class

 

Bodies:

2.0 Overall car weight. Hobby stocks must weigh at least 3200 pounds after race. (NO TOLERANCE) Rub rails may be used.

2.1 Car Bodies 1955 or newer.

2.1a Stock appearing body only!

2.1b Sunroofs and T-tops must be reinforced and enclosed.

2.1c No spoilers, no side sails, no wings, skirts, air scoops or anything that alters the stock appearance. No cockpits! Must have stock floor pan and firewall.

Aftermarket noses and tale pieces are allowed.

2.1d All hoods and trunks must be securely fastened and the back of the hood must be sealed off from driver’s compartment.

2.1e Maximum seven-inch sun visor may be added to top of windshield opening, only.

2.1f All sharp edges, torn fenders and body panels to be repaired prior to next race.

2.1g Must have a minimum of three windshield bars in front of driver.

2.1h All glass, plastic, upholstery, rear seat, lights, mirrors, and chrome removed. No interior tin or other covers.

2.1i All doors must be secured shut. (Welded, chained, bolted, etc.)

2.1j The front inner wheel wells may be removed, but not the rear wheel wells. (Plastic in outer half).

2.1k Hood and trunk lid must be pinned not bolted.

2.1l All glass removed, no mirrors allowed.

2.1m All Wagner Speedway cars should be numbered with large legible numbers on both sides, on top and on the nose and real panels. Numbers on sides of car should be in contrasting color from the body and be at least four (4) inches thick and at least eighteen (18) inches high. Top numbers should be at least four (4) inches thick and twenty-four (24) inches high.

2.1n No car will be allowed to compete with excessive body damage (excessive body damage to be determined by track Officials).

2.1o Bumpers must be used both front and rear and must contain no sharp edges. Any inappropriate bumper will be disallowed. Front bumper should be mounted frame-end to frame-end.

2.1u Wagner Speedway reserves the right, in the public image of the sport, to assign, to approve or disapprove any advertising sponsorship or similar agreement in connection with any event. All cars must be neat appearing and are subject to approval of track officials to compete.

2.1v Spray bars allowed.

Roll Cages

2.2a A full perimeter four post roll cage with an x-brace in rear and rear kickers must be used.

2.2b Roll bar padding required in driver compartment. Fire retardant padding recommended.

2.2c Roll cage must be securely welded to frame. Must have minimum of one cross bar in top halo of roll cage.

2.2d Minimum .095-inch tubing at least 1.5-inch outside diameter for main cage and door bars.

2.2e Four horizontal door bars on both sides are mandatory. Minimum of four uprights tied from frame to top door bar on driver’s side, three on passenger side. Steel door plates, 18 gauge or .049-inch minimum thickness metal, must be securely welded to outside of doors bars on driver’s side.

2.2f Plate must cover the area from the top door bar to the rockier panel and from the rear down post to six inches in front of the seat.

Must be visible for inspection.

2.2g Must have a tow hook front and rear. Front hoops allowed.

2.2h May have two bars for protection in front of radiator, behind bumper, within confines of body, no wider than stock frame horns.

Absolutely no square tubing or galvanized pipe allowed in main cage.

2.2i Fuel cell protection bar may be used, mounted frame rail to frame rail, no higher than the fuel cell and inside the trunk area. Trunk floor may be cut to install fuel cell, must be installed level to old floor!

Maximum 1.75-inch pipe.

Battery

2.3a Must be securely mounted and shielded.

2.3b One 12-volt battery only, must be in a marine type case and mounted in trunk area.

Tires and wheels

2.4 Wheels 7” or 8” wide ONLY Bead Locks allowed, Right rear only

2.4a Tires must be inside the body.

2.4b Tire rule any 70 series up to a 235/70/15

2.4c No mag wheel allowed.

2.4d Maximum 8” wheel.

2.4e One-inch steel lug nuts required.

2.4f May run Hoosiers on an 8 inch wheel if after race weight is 3600 pounds

Frame

2.6a 106-inch wheelbase minimum for unibody cars, 107-inch for full frame cars.

2.6b Frames may be "X" braced. Unibody must be tied – rear frame to front frame.

2.6c No station wagons, convertibles, front-wheel drive, four wheel drive or rear engines.

2.6d Bumpers must be in stock location. Front and rear bumpers must be capped to the fender the width of the bumper.

No reinforced bumpers.

2.6e Fords can be on Ford frames only: Chrysler on Chrysler.

2.6g Motor must be in stock location.

2.6h No titanium products, parts or components allowed anywhere on race car.

2.6i No air bags allowed.

Brakes

2.7a OE brakes on all four wheels must work. Brakes will be tested

2.7b Must be operating on all four wheels and must lock up all four wheels during inspection. Must have calipers on front, and is an option or rear drums. **OE Drums on Ford Nine Inch Rear Ends. No Aluminum GM drums

2.7c Steel brake lines only, must be visible. No antilock brake systems.

2.7d No brake shut-off or bias adjuster.

Fuel Cell / Fuel

2.8a Gasoline purple or E85.

2.8b Racing fuel cell required. No boat or stock automotive fuel tanks. Must be securely fastened inside trunk of car, Above level of stock trunk floor. Firewall must be between driver and fuel cell.

2.8c All cell mounts must be steel, attached to frame/cage. No adjustable fuel cell mounts.

2.8d Fuel cells must be in a steel container with a check valve required.

2.8e Fuel lines through driver compartment must be in steel pipe or conduit.

2.8f No cool cans around fuel system allowed.

2.8g No fuel filters in driver compartment.

2.8h Limit of one standard fuel filter is allowed between the fuel cell and the carburetor.

Fuel / Fuel Pump

2.9a Gas, purple or E85 No alcohol: No performance enhancing additives. Penalty for illegal fuel is loss of points and purse money for the night.

2.9b Fuel shall not be blended with ethers or other oxygenates and it shall not be blended with aniline or its derivatives, nitro compounds or other nitro containing compounds.

2.9c No electric fuel pumps allowed.

Exhaust System / Mufflers

2.10a No headers; must be cast iron exhaust manifolds. No center dump type manifolds except for stock Chrysler.

2.10b Exhaust must extend past the firewall.

2.10c Must remain dual exhaust, no crossover or "Y" pipes allowed.

Drive Shaft

2.11a Loop required and must be constructed of at least ¼ inch by two (2) inch solid steel and should be mounted no more than six (6) inches from the front of the drive shaft tube. Two driveshaft loops of ¼ inch by one (1) inch solid steel fastened to the cross member of the car is an allowable alternative.

2.11b Drive shaft must be painted white. Steel drive shaft only.

2.11c Minimum 2-inch diameter steel driveshaft must be painted white. Steel drive shafts and yokes only.

2.12 Transmission, automatic or 3 speed or 4 speed allowed. Steel flywheel, clutch 10” minimum, no button clutches, hydraulic throwout bearing allowed.

2.12a Automatic transmission with functional torque converter. 4 Quarts in converter minimum. Converter must have drain plug. $200.00 to protest and check converter Cash only! If less then 4 quarts you get your $200.00 back.

2.12b All O.E.M. forward and reverse gears must be operational. Torque converter must have a minimum 1/8-inch plug.

2.12c Must have an approved scatter shield or blanket. Scatter shield may be constructed of .25-inch by three-inch steel, 270 degrees around flex plate or flywheel. Must have shatterproof bell housing on manual transmissions.

 

2.12d $100.00 Clutch protest Flywheel must weigh 16 pounds or more and must have a 10 inch clutch or larger

 

Rear End - 9” Ford encouraged!

2.13a Floaters allowed

 

Steering

2.14a Steering must be O.E.M. No rack and pinion allowed. Must remain within original bolt pattern for type of frame used. In cockpit, steering may be modified to suit driver, but must remain on left side of cockpit. No center steering. May use solid shaft and steering knuckle no rubber rag joints allowed. Quick steering wheel disconnect allowed. No steering quickeners allowed.

Radios

2.15a No transmitting or listening devices allowed in car.

Suspension – No aluminum or titanium! Magnet must stick to all components

2.16c Racing shocks and springs allowed. No weight jacks, period, welded or not, NO WEIGHT JACKS!!! 1 shock per wheel location, in stock location only!

2.16d Rear Shock mounts must be the same on both sides of the rear end. Fixed spacers and no turning at track or replacing spacers at track.

2.16f No titanium products, allowed anywhere on racecar.

 

 

ENGINE

 

 

CLAIM-  positions 1 through 5 are claimable. $500.00 engine claim or $300.00 exchange. Claiming driver must finish on the lead lap. Only the driver can make or refuse a claim. A claimed engine must be run the next event by the claiming driver in the same car, or loss of season points will result. If a driver refuses a claim it will result in loss of points and winnings for the night and a two event suspension. Items not included in the claim are 1. Carb 2. Clutch and pressure plate 3. Flywheel 4. Distributor 5. Pulleys and Fan 6. Pumps (water pump, fuel pump including push rod and plate, powersteering) 7. Motor mounts 8. Plug wires 9. Breathers 10. Dip stick 11. Water outlet and restrictor 12. Starter 13. Exhaust manifolds 14. Bellhousing 15. Throw out bearing or related clutch linkage 16. Oil/temp senders and fittings

 

$100.00 carb exchange claim

 

 

2.17 Steel heads, block & intake. $500.00 protest to tear down and check engine. If legal you lose the money if illegal you get your $500.00 back. Paid at time of protest cash only!

2.17a Must be stock appearing. Absolutely no changes allowed.

2.17b Maximum 360 cubic inch, 9 to 1 compression, Hydraulic camshaft ONLY! 2 barrel stock cast iron intakes, will be checked. Engine must appear strictly stock for that model and make and in the original mounts. Stroke must match block. 6 inch rod allowed due to teching procedure, cannot be teched at the track. Compression to be checked by WHISTLER, several times in season by track tech!

2.17c No aftermarket heads.

2.17d No valve cover bolts in the center of the head and no adapters.

2.17e No performance heads of any kind., no double humps, No bowtie heads, angle plugged heads. No vortechs. No porting or polishing or alterations of any kind to heads, block, or intake, disqualification and $200 fine if found illegal. A stock head shall be characterized as a head that was offered as standard equipment with no performance advantage.

2.17g Must have OE cast iron two-barrel intake.

2.17h Aluminum pulleys and radiators allowed.

2.17j Any overflow tubes are to be directed to the ground, inside the frame rails.

2.17k Hobby Stock Division must run Rochester two barrel (2bbl) carburetor with inch and eleven sixteenth (1-11/16) bore. No Holley's. May remove choke. No spacer plate. No other alterations will be allowed. Must be stock carburetor only. No marine carbs or intakes. All Hobby Stocks will be teched before the race. Ford cars may run 1-11/16th bore.

2.17l No alterations to carb boosters.

2.17m All cars must have the capability of starting without being pushed or pulled. All cars must join lineup on demand, unaided, or go to the rear of that race.

2.17n NO Roller Tip rockers allowed.

2.17n Must run stock firing order for that make and model.

2.17p No Roller Cam

2.17q Flat Top Pistons Allowed

Ignition

2.18a No magnetos or crank triggered ignitions. No more than one coil may be used.

2.18b Kill switch required within easy reach of the driver. The switch must be clearly marked "off" and "on".

2.18c O.E.M. ignition only. No MSD boxes.

Seats

2.19a Racing seats are mandatory, but must be factory manufactured and acceptable to track officials. Positively no homemade aluminum, plastic or fiberglass seats allowed. Seat must be properly installed and seat back cannot be moved back further than rear edge of quarter post. High back aluminum seats only.

Safety Requirements

3.1 Helmets are required and must be approved SHCA or Snell-type full coverage and must be worn at all times the car is on the track.

3.2 Helmets should accompany vehicle at time of inspection.

3.3 Helmets of at least Snell SA95 or SA2000 rating are required.

3.4 Complete one-piece or two-piece fire suits of a flame retardant nature must be worn by all competitors at all times the car is on the track, including packing, warm ups, hot laps and races. SFI-approved full fire suit mandatory.

3.5 SFI-approved fire resistant gloves are mandatory and racing shoes are required.

3.6 Five (5) point safety belts, sub belt and shoulder harness required. No factory type shoulder belts or straps allowed.

3.7 Metal to metal buckles are required on shoulder and seat belts.

3.8 The shoulder harness should be mounted securely to the roll cage. Seat belts and shoulder harness recommended not to be more than three (3) year old.

3.9 Where the belt passes through the seat edges, it must have a grommet installed, be rolled and/or padded to prevent cutting of the belt.

3.10 A full-size window net mounted in the left side driver’s window or approved racing arm restraints are required. Window net mounts must be welded to the roll cage. All bars around driver, must have roll bar padding ** Any driver racing with arm restraints will checked and if tech official can pull arm outside of cockpit will not be allowed to race that race.

3.11 A quick release metal coupling on steering wheel mandatory. Absolutely no plastic couplings allowed.

3.12 Fire resistant safety neck collars are mandatory.

3.13 It is recommended that each car have built-in fire extinguishing equipment, but cannot be of the dry powder type (must be Halon 1211 or equivalent).

3.14 All entrants are required in their pit area as part of their equipment, at all times, a fully charged dry chemical, Halon, or its equivalent, fire extinguisher. Ten (10) or thirteen (13) pound fire extinguishers recommended.

3.15 Everyone must wear the required helmet, driver’s suit and five point safety harnesses whenever in a race car, including packing, warm ups, hot laps and races.

3.16 Absolutely no plastic except from edge of firewall to body skin and inner wheel tub to body skin.

4. Decisions of Wagner Speedway officials are binding without exception!

5. These rules have been set by Wagner Speedway office and can be changed or amended without notice!
